The drill

  1. 1

Fire 1 shot with a perfect sight picture, front sight centered in the rear window.

  2. 2

Fire 1 with the front sight pushed to the right edge of the window.

  3. 3

Fire 1 with it pushed to the left edge.

  4. 4

Fire 1 with it high in the window, then 1 with it low. Keep it in the window and press well every time.

The standard

All 5 stay in the 5-inch circle. The takeaway: trigger matters more than perfect alignment up close.

Safety: Live-fire at a range with a safe backstop. Keep the muzzle downrange throughout.
